Grooming Frequency & At-Home Care
How often should I get my dog groomed?
These are general recommendations, and some variables, such as how much time your pup spends outside or certain breeds, may change our recommendations, but a rule of thumb is:
- Double-coated breeds: Professional grooming every 6–8 weeks, with at-home brushing once a week (or 2–3 times weekly during heavy shedding seasons) to remove loose undercoat and prevent mats .
- Long-coated breeds: Every 4 weeks to prevent mats and tangles .
- Medium-to-short coats: Every 4–6 weeks for optimal coat health and shine.
- Smooth-coated dogs: Every 6–8 weeks, unless they spend significant time outdoors.
At-home maintenance: Brush according to coat type—double-coated dogs weekly (or more often during heavy shedding), and other coats 2–3 times per week to distribute natural oils and minimize tangles
How can I avoid my pet getting matted between grooms?
Can I set a recurring appointment and get the same pet stylist?
Yes, you can set a recurring appointment and request the same pet stylist.
